Currently in its second beta release, WP 3.0 will have lots of new features. One big change is that the WordPress default and Kubrick themes will no longer be included. The are being replaced by a new theme called Twenty Ten. Another anticipated feature is the merging of the WP code with WPMU code. This new “multi site” feature will supposedly make implementing a multi-user site less complicated. I turned Sharon’s sketches into reality using the StudioPress Lifestyle theme.</p> <p>We made sure there was plenty of room for sponsorship of the festival via ad space on the site. They wanted to move to a self-hosted WordPress site and chose the StudioPress Lifestyle theme.</p> <p>First we imported all their content from Blogger. Then I used their existing logo and graphics and tweaked out the theme to their specifications. They knew exactly the color scheme and look they were after and it was a blast working with them. The clean, minimalistic look definitely sets their site apart from many using the Lifestyle theme.</p> </article> <article> <h1>BuddyPress Now Available on WordPress — No WPMU Required!</h1> <p>Laura — Thu, 07 Jan 2010 15:31:25 +0000</p> <p>Good news for people who want to have a social network feature on their WordPress site.</p> <p>BuddyPress, the suite of WordPress plugins and themes designed to work with WPMU, the multi-user version of WordPress, is now available in a version for regular WordPress sites.</p> <p>BuddyPress adds features like a user profile, ability to add friends, instant messaging, groups, activity streams and more to your site. (But then it seems all new versions of WordPress contain sufficient goodies as to make the wait worth it. ) There are indeed some great new features in WordPress 2.9. Here are a few that I think are going to really make people happy. <strong> The Trash Feature</strong> Now instead of deleting a post or comment and having it gone for good, you can send a post or comment to the trash. It will stay there for 30 days before being deleted permanently. So just like your trash at home, you can reach in and pull something out of the trash and restore it. <strong>Image Editor</strong> Now you can crop, rotate, edit and even flip your images inside the Media center. This is touted as one of several media-related improvements to follow in the future. It really makes editing images convenient. <strong>Batch Plugin Update & Compatibility Checking</strong> Yippee! Now you can upgrade all your plugins at once AND WordPress will check to see that these plugins are compatible with the WordPress release you’re using. Those are just a few of the new features. He contacted WPbyDesign to help him tweak it out to provide the look and functionality he was after.</p> <p>The simple look of the Corporate theme makes the richly colorful panels of the comic stand out. It’s a clean, non-cluttered look that shines through.</p> <p>We added several pages templates with their own corresponding sidebars to the theme. This allows Rob at soldiersthecomic.com to customize the sidebar content based on the page content.</p> <p>WPbyDesign also customized the two sister corporate sites, <a href="http://underwatersamurai.com/">underwatersamurai.com</a> and <a href="http://uwspublishing.com/">uwspublishing.com</a>. They have a lot of information to provide their visitors and members, and they also needed to create a membership section of the site. </p> <p>The StudioPress Lifestyle theme was perfect for organizing their large amount of information. Brenda loved the colors used in TheGreenFamilia so we started with that. We extended the navigation to accomodate the amount of pages they needed.
